Qx Live Demonstration

The Query Express home site www.queryexpress.com is running a full installation of Qx to demonstrate its capabilities. An Oracle 8i database has been configured and populated with several demonstration data schemas, and several Qx Reports have been loaded into the Qx Report Library.

You are free to view the reports to familiarize yourself with Query Express or you can browse the data for yourself. You are also encouraged to learn enough of the data to create your own Query Express reports and add it to the Library where yourself and others can retrieve them.

Data Sources

Three sample database environments have been provided with the Query Express demonstration.

System Name	Data source Description
NEWS FEEDS	Live News database on Oracle 8.1.6 server. A batch job runs every 10 minutes to update the data from www.moreover.com. The system receives approximately 500 articles per day.
HUMAN RESOURCES	A simple Human Resources schema has been loaded from sample data provided by Oracle Corporation. It contains fictitious Employee, Salary and Job information.
ORDER ENTRY	This schema contains sample Order Entry data provided by Oracle Corporation. The fictitious data contains subjects including Customers, Products, Orders and Inventories. It also contains multimedia files in the database for demonstrating Query Express' ability to serve binary data.

User Security

All three of the above systems are accessible from the single Qx Web Server. However to demonstrate the use of various user security levels, different user IDs will have different system access.

You may re-authenticate to change your current User ID at any time by clicking the Login as a Different User link found in the Qx Data Browser, Qx Freehand Tool any any Report. Your role and system access will change immediately.

The table above shows that different users have access to different systems. If you re-authenticate as a different user, you will notice the choice of available systems changes appropriately.

Each user has also been assigned a different Role. The following table describes the difference between Roles.

Demonstration Library Contents

The Library is the repository for all Query Express Reports. It can be organized to provide any logical grouping to fit Departments, Subject Areas, Products, Data Sources or any other manner. Access to the Library does not automatically grant access to the data report itself -- only the User's system access rights determines what systems can be queried and data can be returned.

Accessing the reports starts with the left navigation frame. Click on the directory open symbol to expand each main directory or sub-directory. Click on any name within each directory to view the contents of the Query. Selecting any other directory in the navigation frame will close the previously selected directory.
