Query Express Screenshots

Dynamic Content

The Query Express screen consists of a navigation bar on the left and a larger results window to the right. All Queries stored in the Query Express Library are made immediately available to the navigation screen, under the directory or sub-directory selected by the query developer. When selected, a query is executed immediately using up-to-date data, and returned in one of several formats. This sample shows the results of a query returned in a tabular format.

Generate Excel Spreadsheets

With a single click, Query Express can generate the results of your query and return it in Microsoft Excel for further storage and manipulation. The returned spreadsheet includes the report name, systems it was run against and date-stamp. A second worksheet includes information about the query, such as any description or author information added by the Developer.

Embed Your Own Documentation

Your Query Express Administrator can include additional documentation within the Qx portal, and have it available to all Users. You may wish to include a tutorial on Query Express, phone numbers for additional help, information on the structure of your databases, or even a link to another webserver.

Generate HTML Bar Charts

Query Express can create bar charts by having the returned SQL include HTML tags. Several examples are included in the demonstration server.

In Query Express, each report can include HTML Hyperlinks that can lead to other reports or even other pages on other webservers.

XML Output

Query Express can query data from a database and return it in a pure XML format. This is useful if you want Query Express to serve data as an automated web service; within your organization or across the Internet. The XML data can also be further processed into complex reports using Extensible Style-sheet Language (XSL). The XML can even be grouped into a more logical hierarchy to avoid repeating data.

Generate Stylistic Reports

Building on the XML support above, Query Express can also translate the returned data feed into a more complex report format. It does this by using the standard X-Path language for XSL Translation
(XML->HTML).

Qx SQL Freehand **

Query Express Developers and Administrators have access to the SQL Freehand tool for ad-hoc querying of the databases. This provides a basic SQL tool used primarily for testing of Queries prior to publishing to the Query Express Library. Regular Qx Users do not have access to this tool, nor does it appear in their Navigation bar.

Qx Data Browser **

Query Express Developers and Administrators can browse data in the target databases without full knowledge of the data model or schema. This is a basic data browser that allows a developer to drill down from a database to a specific table, and enter a limited number of data rows. Regular Qx Users do not have access to this tool, nor does it appear in their Navigation bar.

Qx Library Publisher **

The Query Express Library Publisher is used for creating or modifying queries in the Qx Library. Each file can actually contain many individual SQL Queries, which could be used to provide a hyperlink drill-down mechanism to go from high-level to very specific data reports. Alternatively, queries within one library entry can link to queries in another library to increase reusability. Developers are allowed to manage queries in their private library directory, while Administrators can manage all private and public library directories. Regular Qx Users do not have access to this tool, nor does it appear in their Navigation bar.
